Who uses open source?
Anyone who Googles uses open source software. Google applications run almost exclusively on open source software. Companies such as Google and Amazon depend on the Internet, which itself is dominated by open source applications. Several members of the Apache Software Foundation are affiliated with Google (see What is Open source?). It is in Google’s interest to contribute to this project that is an essential part of the Internet infrastructure.
Most large businesses depend on open source applications. They have access to the technical resources needed for implementation and maintenance. In addition, they are well-informed about open source applications, despite the absence of marketing or sales efforts for those applications.
Many smaller companies and individuals also use open source software despite its lack of visibility in the market. Its features, quality and stability fit well with most computing needs.
